Camping in Mendocino, CA

Three years after selling our '71 Westy we really missed that style of camping. The F-150 was great but with the lease ending we had another chance.

I started looking at 90-91 Vanagons. Since I had never driven one we rented one for the '02 Easter weekend from California Campers. They were great to deal with! They did have a minor mishap with the pop top canvas before we left but they it quickly. While we were waiting we went to a nearby VW dealer and looked at a 2002 EVC. That provided a great comparison and probably convinced us to look at EVCs. However, the Vanagon provided a great weekend.

We drove up Highway 1 and had a great lunch in Stinson Beach. Then we kept heading north. Eventually, due to time constraints (you don't make quick headway on Highway 1) we cut over to 101 at Bodega Bay and picked it up at Santa Rosa. We stayed at Russina Gulch State Park. It is a beautiful camp ground with access to the ocean and views of lush greenery. Highly recommended!
